What has God asked of you?
I scrolled through social media while the persuasiveness of my algorithm pressed down like an anvil on my shoulders.
One friend shared about the financial freedom she’d found by selling a product from home. It worked well for her and her family and for many others she knows.
Another friend shared about her diet. About the way she’s choosing to eat and feed her family and how it transformed their health.
And then another friend shared about her large family, and how her joy and purpose grows with the addition of each child.
Another one shared about success in her career. How she’s climbed ladders and worked tirelessly and found great success in her field.
Then a different friend shared a video of her workout routine. About how much she loves and enjoys challenging and strengthening her body, and how it’s made a huge difference in her mental health.
Turns out, everyone believes their way is the best way.
The best way to peace. To financial security. To health. To a happy marriage. To well-rounded children. To beauty. Style. Education. You name it, and there’s someone promoting it as priority.
But here’s the reality: we aren’t all called to do the same thing or be the same thing.
It may work for her, but is that what God has asked of you?
“Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths, guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” (Psalm 25:4-5)
Maybe God has asked you to do one of those things. And the more you lean into it, the clearer it becomes. But maybe it’s simpler than that. Maybe, what God is asking of you and me is to live faithfully right where we are.
In the regular, ordinary, daily places He’s currently positioned us.
To love and invest in the people around us. To work diligently at whatever task is set before us. And to turn our eyes away from a screen and towards Him for daily guidance, affirmation, and direction.
I don’t know what God has asked of you, but I do know this: whatever it may be, His blessing and fulfillment will meet you in that very space – big or small, public or private.
And that, my friend, is worth doing.
