For the disappointed & the let down

She sat at the table eating her grilled cheese sandwich as I worked around the kitchen trying to prepare something for the baby’s lunch.

“My friend told me she just lives with her mom and her sisters,” she said out of the blue.

“Oh, really? Okay.” I responded, unsure of where she was headed with this conversation.

“Yeah, her dad doesn’t live at her house. He lives somewhere else.” And as this conversation continued, I quickly realized that my daughter and her friend had been discussing the topic of divorce.

They didn’t use the word. It’s currently not a part of her vocabulary.

But the more she shared, the more details she included, I was amazed at the depth of their four year old conversation. Yet more than that, my heart hurt for her friend. Her friend, and her friend’s mom, because I understand the pain and disappointment of divorce.

People will disappoint us. People will let us down. It’s a fact of life.

People are faulty. Every single one of us is prone to wander, stumble, and fall.

But God is a firm foundation. The anchor for our souls. Our high place. Our shelter. Our rock and our fortress.

When we stumble, God remains firm.

When we wander, God never moves.

And if our hope is placed in Him, we will never be put to shame because God never fails.

So if you have a hard time believing that because someone faulty and feeble, someone you may have very well loved and trusted, has let you down, take a look at God’s Word.

“Listen to me (insert your name here), you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and will carry you. I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” (Isaiah 46:3-4)

God will never leave you. He will never abandon you. And He will never let you down. You can trust Him.
