something is better than nothing

The boy came prepared with two fish and five loaves - it was just enough for him to eat.

Caught up in the middle of a crowd full of men with hungry bellies and tired feet.

He was the only one who’d showed up prepared. The only one who had a meal.

A meal that, if others happened to see, they might fight for – even steal.

One of the disciples noticed the boy. He spotted the fish and bread.

And without concealing or arguing, the boy gave it as he felt led.

It wasn’t much, but it was something. A small sacrifice was made.

Was there worry in his mind that his hunger would actually increase, not fade?

But the little meal was given to Jesus as a simple offering.

And who would’ve known from such a small thing what a miracle Jesus would bring?

That the little bit given to Jesus would be multiplied to bless many.

And yet the boy could’ve missed out on an incredible thing had he not given any.

You may not feel like you have much to give, but remember who you’re giving it to.

The One who heals the sick, raises the dead, and parts seas for his people to pass through.

The One who walks on waters, calms the storms, and died on the cross.

The One who holds the whole world in his hands, the hands in which there is no loss.

You’ve been given this very thing not to keep but to share.

To share with those who need to know that God does care.

He cares about their hunger, their hurt, and their heart.

He cares about their entire life – every detail from the start.

So don’t be afraid to offer it up, and then wait to see what he’ll do.

He’ll take what you have and use every bit to bless others as he blesses you.
