Wise words and dirty laundry
I’ll let you in on a little secret... I don’t separate my laundry.
Dark colors, light colors, they all go in the wash together. I adopted this method many, many years ago, and it’s working like a charm for me.
My dad was visiting last week, and he stood in the doorway of my laundry room watching me move wet clothes from the washer to the dryer.
“You know you’re supposed to clean the dryer filter after each load, right?”
“Of course I know that, Dad.” I replied. “But I usually clean it off after every other load or so.”
“Well, I’m not trying to tell you how to do your laundry. I just don’t want the lint building up in your filter and starting a house fire,” he said.
I appreciated the love he was showing me, and he was right. His job as my dad is to always be concerned about me, and he takes that job seriously.
God gave his children commands and wise instructions. They had the option to follow his instruction or turn from it. They could do it his way or theirs. One way would lead to blessings, the other would not. Each person had a choice. And we still have that choice today.
“These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you...” Deuteronomy 6:1-3
Wise instructions from a loving father are always worth heeding. They are for our benefit, for our good, and for our well being.
