Reason #490
It has been a week! I suppose that's what we get for having a week off. Mexico kindly sent me home with a great tan and a few ailments thus forcing me to finally give in and go to the clinic this morning. After an hour and a half of waiting, a good over-the-counter medicine, and a really strong antibiotic, I was good to go. And, I wasn't the only one dealing with a little illness this week. Poor Scout had her first throw-up experience. All in all, the Davis household needs to get well soon!
Thank goodness it's Friday, and thank goodness it's a long weekend. A full weekend, no doubt, but still a weekend. Crazy to think that two weeks ago from today was our wedding and that it's all over with now. All that planning and preparing and it has come and gone. And so we've successfully made it through our first week of reality. Of sharing sleeping space, waking up early for work, going to bed, doing joint laundry, trying to make space for both of our things, and all of our other regular, everyday activities. And although the regular, everyday things are nice, a girl could get used to resort living. To having all meals prepared upon request, no cleaning, no schedule, no where to be, and nap time when ever. But such as life, at least on this side of Heaven.
Reality can be harsh, right? Especially after falling from cloud 9. But eventually it sets in and life resumes. In fact, life kept going even while you were off floating on cloud 9, as was made obvious by one of my co-workers who didn't even notice my absence from work for 7 days. Anyway, sometimes it can be hard to come back to reality. To work, to responsibility, to challenges and struggles. To difficulties, disappointments, frustrations, schedules. But this is just how life is sometimes. And occasions like last week make me all the more grateful for moments to slip away from reality. To deviate from normal life, with all of it's pushing and pulling, and to experience the abnormal. And after experiencing that for a week and coming home to a hectic schedule full of demands and obstacles, I just think about how much I can't wait for another vacation. In fact, we decided that we would do this once a year if possible. A little escape because sometimes you just need to get away from it all.
Well, the reality is that one day we will get away from it all. Away from time constraints, from schedules, from expectations, demands, requests, responsibilities, and challenges. One day it will all be over and we won't face difficulties or struggles. One day, we will escape from it. And what a joy it will be to bask in the beauty without being rushed. To have nothing else competing for your time or attention. To be in paradise permanently. That's something to look forward to.
And so even though it was a crazy week full of to-do's, things that didn't get done, and a trip to the doctor, I praise Him for it. For the easy weeks, the crazy weeks, the relaxing weeks and every week in between. And I figure that when you know your final stop is paradise, you can get through any kind of week the world may hand you.
#490 - Because the last stop is paradise.
"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” - Revelation 21:1-4
