Reason #731

Some of our friends got engaged on Thursday night, and we are so excited for them. I was talking with the bride-to-be on Wednesday night about all of her wedding ideas. I mean, let's face it, we girls have those things planned out in our heads long before the question is popped, and when we know that question is coming, the wheels start spinning. Anyway, she was asking me questions about cakes, photography, and venues, having no idea that she'd be getting a beautiful ring within 24 hours. The wait is always the hardest part, isn't it?

Being a bride is quite the job. Really, you can make it as hard or as easy on yourself as you want, but no bride gets through wedding planning without any stress. Decisions have to be made, schedules have to be followed, and even when you have really small, simple wedding, you still have some anxiety. Will it all go the way you've planned? Will the day be beautiful like you're hoping? Who will come? Will there be enough food for everyone? Will the groom be blown away when he sees you? The questions are endless, and you spend however long you have preparing for that day. You want to enjoy it, but you also want it to be perfect. Because this isn't just any day. This is your wedding day. This is the start of a new chapter in your life. This day will change the rest of your life going forward, and so every little detail is mapped out to a T. And, you find yourself anxiously awaiting the time to pass so the day will finally be here. The day you've dreamed of, the day you've so diligently planned for, the day you've been waiting and praying for.

I love weddings. I love getting to celebrate such a joyous occasion and getting to witness the pure bliss and excitement of a bride and groom. And although I love flowers and wedding dresses and wedding cake, my absolute favorite part of any wedding is getting to see the bride for the first time. Hands down, that is the most anticipated and exciting part of the whole day. Because it's such a mystery. I love seeing the doors open and her face light up as she looks at her groom. I love seeing the groom fight back tears as she walks towards him. It's as if everyone is holding their breath, captivated by her beauty as she walks down the aisle. And when she makes it to her groom, my heart is overjoyed. Really, this is what we all came for, the details don't really matter anymore.

But what if she was so wrapped up in planning out her perfect day that she didn't show up? What if she did all that work and then didn't even make it to the wedding to enjoy the fruits of her labor? What if the bride was too busy with the details that she missed her big day? That'd be a real disappointment for everyone, including her. What a tragedy to have spent to much time and effort and to not even be there.

We're the bride. We're the ones planning and preparing, working and waiting. Waiting for our groom. Waiting for that day when we'll finally get to stand next to Him and be made complete. Waiting for our joy to be fulfilled. We're the ones who will be standing behind that door when it opens. The ones who will be walking towards Him, living out the perfect wedding day. And so we don't want to miss out on that. We don't want to be too wrapped up in the details of life that our wedding day never becomes our reality. We don't want to become distracted and lose sight of the real reason this day is happening. Because the details are simply that, details. The marriage is what counts. And so we wait with anticipation, just like any bride waits for her wedding day. Because, although we don't know when it'll happen, we know it will and we wouldn't want to miss being there for anything in this world.

#731 - For the joys of wedding day planning.

"As a young man marries a young woman, so will your Builder marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you." - Isaiah 62:5
