God knows
I woke up with the news on my mind.
Global news. Bad news.
It was one of the last things my husband had mentioned before we turned out the lights the night before, and it had remained on a loop despite hours of sleep separating the conversation and daylight.
What if that really happens? I mulled the thought over considering the likelihood, and although it was slim, it wasn’t obsolete.
I’m sure you’ve had the same thoughts, too. A quick clip of the news, a tragic story, a horrifying circumstance, and all of the sudden terrors are not just a possibility. They are a present-day reality.
Weight pressed on my soul, and I whispered a prayer while scooping grounds into the coffee pot. As I returned the bag to the pantry, the small magnet on the side of the refrigerator caught my eye. The mysterious little purple square that had somehow found a spot right below the calendar.
“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those who trust in him.” – Nahum 1:7
Listen, it is easy to worry. To get caught up in fear. Drown in anxiety. I get it, and right now, more than ever.
We are living in days of trouble, and it’s been that way since the Garden of Eden. No generation has escaped turmoil, and none will until Jesus returns and sets all things right.
But despite the surrounding trouble and impending conflict, God is our stronghold. Our fortified place of refuge. And He knows those who trust in Him. Not just knows of them. He KNOWS them. Their thoughts, their concerns, their desires, and their plight. He is fully aware.
I don’t know the battle raging around you or within you. But I do know this: God is good. Good to shield our fragile hearts, uphold our weary spirits, and eternally secure our souls. We aren’t called to worry, to fear, or to be anxious. But rather to trust in His loving care and seek refuge in His unshakable hands.
