God rested, so should you
The dog woke up at 5:15am to go out. I looked at the clock and calculated how much longer I could sleep before one of my girls would rise for the day. I probably had 3 hours left, but I couldn’t go back to sleep.
I walked into the kitchen and brewed a pot of coffee. Sitting in the silence of my home, I opened my Bible to Genesis 2.
“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it he rested from all the work of creating he had done.” (Genesis 2:2-3)
What a nice feeling. To be done. Can you imagine what it must feel like to be totally finished with all of your work? Nothing is ever actually finished around here. I’ve got a continuous running list of things to do!
But maybe, in the midst of this never stopping race, God is calling you to rest. Not to do more. Not to keep on keeping on and filling your plate to the edge. But to rest. To enjoy what he has already done. To follow his example and trust in his provision.
God said.
God made.
God created.
God blessed.
God rested.
And it was good!
