I AM - He will and is
I still remember the drive back home from Granbury as if it happened last week, not twelve years ago.
I’d been sent to help open a new branch for the bank, and it was my first time to travel solo. With my MapQuest directions printed and noted, I’d successfully made it there, the opening was a grand slam, and it was time to return home.
The sun poured through the windows, and for the first time in over six months, it was as if the heat was melting away sorrow. Joy, gladness, happiness – feelings that had been absent from my days for so long, were finally reappearing.
“I can’t believe it, Lord. I’ve not only survived one of my worst nightmares but I’m well on the other side. I’m actually okay. I can’t believe that I got through it.”
Yet as the thought formed, it was quickly interrupted by the still voice echoing truth over my pride.
"You aren't the one who got you through this, I AM. I AM the one who gave you the strength to move through each day. I AM the one who carried you through the storm. I AM the one who provided for you. I AM the one who met your every need. I AM the one who held your shattered spirit together. I AM the one who brought you abundant blessings. I AM the one who satisfied you in the desert. I AM the one who surrounded you. I AM the one who protected you. I AM the one who rescued you. I AM the one who gave you hope. I AM the one who caught your tears. I AM the one who turned your mourning into rejoicing. I AM the one who returned the light to your eyes. I AM the one who gave you peace. I AM the one who revealed truth. I AM the one who redeemed you. I AM the one who loves you!"
I AM – the name God gave Moses in Exodus 3 when the man wasn’t sure he could actually accomplish the task set before him.
And even now, as I live on the other side of the valley and know the answer – I still find myself, like Moses, asking questions.
About my family.
My hopes and dreams.
My desires.
My needs.
My weaknesses and struggles.
Lord, who will work it all out? Who will see it through? Who will bring it to pass?
I can tell you who won’t – me.
Because “all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17)
Are you asking the same question, my friend? If so, you can rest easy because I can give you the answer.
Who will?
God will. And not only will He, but even right now – He is.
Working, moving, holding, helping, guiding, refining, shaping, healing, restoring, redeeming.
“So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
I AM – He will, He is.
