Reason #850
One hundred and fifty more days. When compared to 1000, that seems like such a small number, doesn't it? That's all that is left. One hundred and fifty days and I will have made it. But the truth is, it seems like it was just yesterday that I started this endeavor.
I think it goes without saying that I am thankful for the rain. Finally, we've received rain. I don't know how much, but it's been nice to get rain all day for more than one day. Rain that has poured down for more than a few minutes. I would be perfectly happy for the clouds to stay awhile. Our land has desperately needed rain, and I always love seeing God answer our prayers by sending it.
Some things you just can't control. The weather is one of them. The tough thing about rain is that you simply have to wait for it to come. You can't make it fall. You can't keep it from evaporating, either. You can't determine how much you get or how often it comes. And so you have to trust that God will provide rain when you need it because He is the only one who can.
But there are those days when it seems like it will never fall. Those weeks and months that are so painfully dry that you almost forget what moisture feels like. The seasons where you are parched and dry and the cracks run deep. And so you pray and pray and pray for rain even though there is none in sight. You keep asking because it's what you need, and you hold out hope knowing that one day, it will eventually come.
But it keeps holding off. It doesn't fall. The clouds come, acting as if they've brought rain, but its only a tease. Every now and then, a little bit falls but not enough to quench. Just enough to remind you how much you need the refreshment of rain, and so you keep praying for more.
But God answers prayers. The rain will come. It always does. And although we might fall victim to thinking it's just nature's way of taking care of itself, I beg to differ. Because God controls the rain clouds. He can open them and close them. We've been asking that He send rain, and He has been faithful to answer our prayers. Regardless of how much He sends, it's still an answered prayer. And any amount of rain is always a reminder of God's goodness, of His faithfulness to provide, and of His love that endures forever.
It may seem like we're withering, but we have to hold on. Hold out for the rain. Ask for it. Don't stop praying for it. Trust God to provide it. Eventually, it will come.
#850 - Because He is always faithful to send rain.
"The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands." - Deuteronomy 28:12
